Ali Abbasi – The Nights of Mashhad: “I am worried about my actors who still live in Iran”

In 2018, Ali Abbasi marked the Cannes Film Festival with Border. A fantastic story with a customs officer endowed with superpowers who had won the Prix Un Certain Regard. Four years later, he is back on the Croisette with a more down-to-earth story. Inspired by a news item that marked Iran, Nights of Mashhad tells the story of a journalist’s investigation in the footsteps of a killer of prostitutes who operates in general indifference.
