Directed by Guillaume Canet, also in the role of Asterix, the film is announced for the year 2023.
Realized by Guillaume Canet, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom is the fifth film in the franchise to come from Armorica in live action. No longer centered on Rome and its Romans but this time turned towards Asia and in particular China, The middle Empire had caused a sensation by announcing its casting last April: Guillaume Canet (Asterix), Gilles Lellouche (Obélix), Marion Cotillard (Cléopâtre), Pierre Richard (Panoramix), Philippe Katerine (Assurancetourix the bard), Audrey Lamy (Bonnemine) will appear in effect in the credits, alongside other super stars like Zlatan (Antivirus), Orelsan (Titanix) or the singer Angèle (in the skin of Falbala). However, so few details have been given on this new chapter of the heroes of Goscinny and Uderzo, we now know that it will be released in France on February 1, 2023 (via the french film).
In the casting of Asterix, by Guillaume Canet (update)
The return of the most irreducible Gauls in literature was announced in 2019, in front of Canet’s camera, in a feature film shot in France and China based on an original story by Philippe Mechelen and Julien Hervé (the authors of Tuche). After twists and turns due to the health crisis in China, the shooting had been postponed there. Currently, the film is in post-production.
This film is the first not to be adapted from an album, however it has won over the Albert René editions, which hold the rights to the work of Uderzo and Goscinny. The plot of the film will revolve around the only daughter of Chinese Emperor Han Xuandi, who flees a rogue prince and finds herself in Gaul to ask Asterix and Obelix for help. We imagine that the two heroes will also travel to China. In addition to these few details about the plot, Canet did not refrain from sharing a few moments of filming on his social networks, in particular behind the scenes of a banquet scene that recalls the atmosphere at the end of the comics.
