The feature film, based on the book by Atul Gawande, does not yet have a title or synopsis, but we can assume that it will deal with the end of life and its taboos, especially in the United States. Published in 2015, this book has on the back cover: “Death is often perceived as an injustice, a failure, a continuous suffering. The increase in life expectancy in our Western societies, which has taken us away from the realities of our mortal condition, certainly has something to do with it. Medical practice too, which tends to multiply care and treatment at all costs, even when hope is no longer allowed. Faced with this state of affairs, the surgeon Atul Gawande wonders about death and the limits medicine, and asks a fundamental question: at the end of a life, how to continue to lead an existence as rich as possible? Many solutions exist, and an adapted structure makes it possible to improve the quality of life. Atul Gawande illustrates this by telling stories, sometimes moving, and delivers a real plea for a medicine that knows how to listen and discuss with patients their desires and their fears.Through his humanistic approach to the question of the end of life, Atu l Gawande has caused a real phenomenon in the United States, demonstrating that death can be tamed and accepted, and that one can enjoy until the end a life full of meaning, satisfactions and pleasures.”
“Aziz Ansari is blessed with incredible talent. His script is a perfect alchemy between incisive humor and dramatic situations”. recognize David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield, at the head of Searchlight Pictures. “We are delighted to partner with him for his first feature film and of course to collaborate again with the brilliant Bill Murray” after The French Dispatch last year, presented at the 74th Cannes Film Festival.
The film is announced for 2023.
