James Wan today reveals what was behind the canceled spin-off: The Trench.
Earlier this year, Warner Bros. Pictures has decided to stop the development of its spin-off ofAquaman, entitled The Trench. A new DC blockbuster that the studio had been plastering on for two years, and which was said to have been based on the deep sea monsters, called the creatures of the pit, which appear in the 2018 film.
But this project had remained very mysterious. Till today. On Instagram, director James Wan reveals that The Trench was actually thought of as a spin-off on Black manta. A solo film dedicated to the character played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

It will therefore never see the light of day. But we will find Yahya Abdul-Mateen II in the skin of David Kane alias Black manta in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, which is currently filming in London. Release in theaters expected in December 2022.
