Cannes 2022: Critics’ Week selection

Chaired by filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the 61st Critics’ Week of the Cannes Film Festival unveiled its selection, with films by Jesse Eisenberg and Clément Gogitore in special screenings.

After the official competition and the selection of Un certain regard last weekthen the Directors’ Fortnight yesterdayit’s Critics’ Week’s turn to unveil its 2022 competition. Its jury will be chaired by the Tunisian filmmaker Kaouther Ben Haniadirector of the remarkable Beauty and the pack (presented at Un certain regard 2017), and the opening film (out of competition) will be the actor’s first feature film Jesse Eisenberg When You Finish Saving the World with Julianne Moore and Finn Wolfhard. Le Film tells the story “the explosive relationship between a politically engaged mother and her young musician son in search of social media stardom”, according to the press release of the week. Drop of gold of Clement Gogitore with Karim Leklou as a crooked medium will be presented in a special session, just like Everybody loves Joan by Céline Devaux (winner of the César for Best Short Film in 2016 with The Sunday Meal) with Blanche Gardin, comedy mixing animation and live action. Korean director Jung July will close the Week with his new film, a “feminist and captivating thriller” with Bae Doo-na (already in the director’s first feature, A Girl at My Doorseen in Un certain regard 2014).
