Xavier Giannoli’s film will be widely represented. Conversely, the last Palme d’Or, Titanium, ends up with the bare minimum.
Given the health situation, the list of Appointments for the Caesar 2022 was unveiled online by the Academy on Wednesday. And among the films in competition, it is Lost Illusions, by Xavier Giannoli, who gets the lion’s share. With 15 nominations in total, the feature film adapted from Balzac even beats the historic record for the highest number of nominations! Just behind Annette (11), with Adam Driver in the running for Best Actor, and Aline (10), with Valérie Lemercier in the running for four personal Césars (Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Film), will act as outsiders.
Among the disappointed, we note that Titanium, yet Palme d’Or at Cannes last year, and chosen to represent France at the next Oscars (candidate which did not succeed), is content with 4 nominations and above all, is not even one of the nominees for the Best movie. A first for a French Palme d’Or! On his side, The Event, crowned Golden Lion in Venice, will indeed be in the running in the supreme category, even if it will also be limited to 4 nominations.
The ceremony will take place on Friday February 25 at L’Olympia, with Antoine de Caunes at the helm and chaired by Danièle Thomson. Here is the full list of 2022 César nominations :
