Featured at Sundance, Coda will be released on Apple TV + in August.
No need to present you the pitch of Coda, if you are told that this is the American remake of The Aries Family, not true ? Come on, anyway: the daughter of a deaf family, gifted in song, must choose: stay with her parents in the family business or leave them for a singing school? In 2015, The Aries Family had gathered more than 7.4 million spectators and Louane Emera had won the César for Best Female Promising Actor. The American version – whose title is an acronym for “child of deaf adult” – hired the young Englishwoman Emilia Jones (19 years old) and seen in Locke & Key) in the lead role, and her mother is played by the infamous, truly deaf Marlee Matlin, winner of the Best Actress Oscar in 1987 for Children of silence and played for strategist Joey Lucas in the seven seasons ofTo the White House. Coda, presented at the last Sundance Festival, is directed by Sian Heder, already author of Tallulah (viewable on Netflix) with Elliot Page and Allison Janney and was a hit at Sundance.
Coda: The American Remake of The Aries Family hit hard at Sundance
There remains one question that bothers us: in The Aries Family, the music teacher played by Eric Elmosnino (Mexican comic superstar Eugenio Derbez in the remake) made his students sing Sardou by presenting him as the French Mozart. Who can replace the singer of I fly, Love sickness and The blessed time of the colonies to USA ? We await your suggestions, while waiting to discover the film on Apple TV + on August 13th.
