David Lynch denies the rumor: “I’m not releasing new films, I have nothing in Cannes”

The director says it’s a “total rumour”.

During an interview for Entertainment Weekly, David Lynch talked about remastering his film Inland Empire and denied rumors about a potential film presented at the Cannes Film Festival. “I don’t have a new movie coming out, it’s a total rumour! That’s it, it’s not going to happen. There is no project, and I am not presenting anything at Cannes. It’s a shame, people say to themselves ‘Oh, that would be nice’, but if there’s anything new, it’s not mine. And I don’t know who it is. They said there would be something new at Cannes, but we don’t know from whom. People thought it was mine, but no. So we’ll wait and see!”

David Lynch’s new secret film selected at Cannes?

And yet. The magazine variety asserted, according to two very well-informed sources, that a new feature film by the director of Sailor and Lula should be presented at the Festival, and with Laura Dern to the cast! Other favorite Lynch actors could also be present, so it would not be surprising to see Kyle MacLahanactor in blue-velvet and Twin Peaks. So who to believe? Is the director bluffing? We will know more tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the press conference which will reveal the films in competition at Cannes 2022.
