DC recruits new Batgirl: Leslie Grace to star Barbara Gordon in movie

A film for the HBO Max platform directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, to whom we owe the recent Bad Boys For Life.

They are few to have incarnated Batgirl on the screen. The DC heroine from the Batman comics was first played by Yvonne Craig in the 1960s, in the old series. Closer to home, Alicia Silverstone was the Barbara Wilson of the film Batman and robin of 1997. And twenty-five years later, here we are again Batgirl. It won’t be in theaters, but in a streaming movie for the HBO Max platform.

This is Leslie Grace who will take up the torch, announces Deadline today. After testing actresses this week, Warner Bros. and DC Films have made their choice. Leslie Grace was chosen to play Barbara Gordon and will be the new Batgirl.

Rising “afro-latina” star, she has exploded in recent weeks in the musical Where we come from (In the heights) adapted from Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Broadway hit (released on June 23, 2021 in France). According to Deadline, it was her audition that made the difference against the other finalists: Isabella Merced (Dora the Explorer), Zoey Deutch (The Politician) and Haley Lu Richardson (The Edge of SeventeenThe studio has not made any official comments yet.

The film Batgirl will be the first DC license to debut exclusively in streaming. It will be directed by Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah, to whom we owe the recent Bad boys 3. Nothing is known of the story, except that Barbara Gordon is the daughter of Commissioner Gordon.
