It has just announced a 33% growth over one year in its subscriptions.
Always driven by its momentum, its Marvel series, its Star Wars series, and its catalog of films, Disney + announcement have exceeded Wall Street’s growth forecasts for the first quarter of 2022. The platform enlisted 8 million additional subscribers during the period (much more than the estimated 5.2 million new subscribers) and is now close to 138 million subscribers worldwide. That is an increase of 33% over one year.
The results contrast with those of netflixwhich marked, for the first time, a loss of 200,000 subscribers in the same first quarter.
That being said, netflix still remains largely number 1 in the sector, since it totals more than 221 million paying accounts.
But the difference with Disney + is reduced. “Our quarterly results have once again proven that we are in a league of their own.”assures the head of Disney, Bob Chapek, in commentary. “We think that Disney + is one of a kind” and the big-eared giant’s CEO believes his group is on track to achieve its long-term goal of 230 to 260 million subscribers by the end of fiscal 2024.
