“Given the relentless assault on Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis, we are taking steps to suspend all of our other activities in Russia.”

After Netflix, which stopped its local productions and even its streaming service in Russia, the Walt Disney Company is trying to suspend all activities in the country of Vladimir Putin, after “the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine“, said a spokesperson for the studio on Thursday.

Last week, the group said it no longer wanted to release its new films in Russian cinemas, but it is now taking additional steps to shut down the rest of its operations there. disney owns several television channels and consumer product brands in Russia, as well as a cruise port located in St. Petersburg.

“Given the relentless assault on Ukraine and the escalating humanitarian crisis, we are taking steps to suspend all of our other activities in Russia. This includes content and product licensing, Disney Cruise operations Line, National Geographic magazine and tours, local content productions and TV channels. Some of these activities will be suspended immediately. Others will take longer to shut down given contractual complexities.”

The declaration of disney indicates that personnel based in Russia will continue to be employed by the group: “Even though we suspend these activities, we remain committed to our dedicated colleagues in Russia, who will remain employed. And we continue to work with our NGO partners to provide emergency and other much-needed aid to refugees.”continues the press release
