We learned at the end of last year that Disney was preparing a new animated film, Strange Worldinspired by “pulp”, these popular American comics, which rocked the childhood of director Don Hall (The New Heroes, Raya and the Last Dragon). The firm then revealed a concept art to introduce us to this SF project telling the story of a fabulous journey to the heart of an unexplored and threatening land populated by fantastic creatures. The studio has just uploaded its first teaser, and unsurprisingly, the images evoke many classics of the genre, from Journey to the Center of the Earthby Jules Verne, at lost world from Arthur Conan Doyle to The Time Machine, by HG Wells. She also mentions certain Disney productions, such as up therethe Pixar classic directed by Pete Docter in 2009 or tomorrowlandthe SF film by Brad Bird that depicted an idealistic future, as scientists, artists and inventors such as Thomas Edison, Gustave Eiffel or Walt Disney himself would have imagined.
The director finds for this animated project Qui Nguyen, the scriptwriter of Raya. Jake Gyllenhaal is in the voice cast: it is he who doubles Clade, the young hero of the film. Strange World is expected on November 23, 2022. The trailer does not specify whether it will be released in theaters or on Disney+.
