Dying Can Wait beats Fast 9 to become world’s biggest hit since health crisis

Some $ 733 million in revenue in just over a month of operation.

Already certain (or almost) to finish 2021 as the biggest success of the year in France, To die can wait has just won another record, steeped in symbols: the new James Bond is officially the most profitable Hollywood film of the pandemic era.

The 25th film of 007 has just overtaken Fast & Furious 9 at the global box office to become the biggest hit since the start of the health crisis and the impact of COVID-19 on theaters. Daniel Craig’s final run ended the weekend at $ 733 million in overall revenue, overtaking Tom Toretto’s cars, which had stopped at $ 725 million over the summer.

Daniel Craig knew the end of Dying Can Wait for 15 years

In details, To die can wait recorded $ 160 million in the United States and $ 574 million in the rest of the world.

In the ranking of the James Bond franchise, the film can still go for the second place of Spectrum, which finished at $ 879 million in earnings in 2016. The number 1, Sky Fall, only 007 to have passed the billion mark, is too far ahead.

Obviously, the bosses of MGM in heaven: “We are thrilled to see audiences return to theaters around the world and their support for the cinematic experience. After a long delay and so many postponements, we are particularly happy to see To die can wait entertained so many moviegoers around the world (…) This achievement pays tribute to Daniel Craig and the entire cast, as well as our director Cary Fukunaga, the producers and the crew who signed this amazing movie.
