This TV Spot finally clearly addresses the homosexuality of this flagship character of the Harry Potter saga.
The output of Fantastic Beasts 3: Dumbledore’s Secrets is approaching, and a few hours after the publication ofa featurette dedicated to Dumbledore’s First Army, Crave Culture shared a TV Spot from David Yates’ upcoming blockbuster for Warner Bros. in which the future Headmaster of Hogwarts, played by Jude Law, chats with Gellert Grindelwald (now played by Mads Mikkelsen) about their past friendship and what caused it. their division.
The first criticizes the second for his violent conception of relations between wizards and muggles. He tells her that “this is madness”and the great villain of the prequels retorts that he will go through with his plan, with or without him. “We vowed to reshape the world, Albus continues. Because I was in love with you.”

Where is Tina? Katherine Waterston is completely absent from the Fantastic Beasts 3 promo
A clear statement, which pleasantly surprised Harry Potter fans, given that in the books, Dumbledore’s homosexuality is never clearly mentioned. JK Rowling claimed his character was gay in promotion for the latest book, in 2007, but within his novels the relationship between Albus and Gellert is presented simply as a friendship between two teenagers who admire each other for their intelligence and their wizarding skills. If you can read between the lines that their relationship was deeper than that, the author had hinted that this subject would be more clearly addressed in Fantastic Beastsin 2016: “I am very comfortable with this subject. I would like to say thatthere’s a lot to be said about Dumbledore’s relationshipssince it is a series of five films. You will see Dumbledore younger, a little troubled. We will see him in his formative period. And as for his sexuality, well…Wait and see.” Then director David Yates explained to him that it would not be openly discussed. It was in 2018, a little before the release of the second opus, The Crimes of Grindelwald : “This will not be explicitly shown. But I think every fan knows that. He had a very intense relationship with Grindelwald when they were young. They fell in love with each other’s ideas and ideology.”
Finally, in this TV Spot of Dumbledore’s Secrets, Dumbledore openly states that he was in love with Grindelwald. His answer is in the past tense, implying that he no longer has the same feelings for the powerful wizard who has since become dangerous by wanting to take control of his peers and wipe out Muggles. Nothing says either for the moment that Gellert felt the same for Albus…
Fantastic Beasts 3 will be released on April 13 in France. Here is its long trailer:
