9th in our ranking of the best films of 2021, the latest Bruno Dumont, presented at the Cannes Film Festival last summer, auscultates a France hysterized by social networks and continuous news channels. A crazy, powerful and terrifying, impressive and exhausting film, carried by a Léa Seydoux who brilliantly plays with her image of princess of French cinema.
Also presented at Cannes, Emmanuel Courcol’s feature film is the feel good movie you need in these dark times. A triumph, it is the story of an actor in galley (Kad Merad, superb), who accepts to lead a theater workshop in a prison. Intoxicated by the talent of the prisoners, he decides to put on a play (Waiting for Godot) despite the reluctance of the administration. Great popular cinema.
The Land of Men
Little peasant, In the name of the earth, To recover, The Cloud… The agricultural world definitely inspires French cinema. And that often gives good films. The Land of Men is no exception to the rule. With a solid cast (Diane Rouxel, Finnegan Oldfield, Jalil Lespert, Olivier Gourmet), director Naël Marandin (The Walker) tells us the story of a girl farmer who tries to impose herself in a world dominated by men… and their impulses.
