Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis will be “an extraordinary film”, says Jon Voight, who read the script

The actor is in talks to join the cast.

Having bet some 120 million dollars of his personal career for his future project Megalopolis, Francis Ford Coppola is preparing the production of the film of his dreams, whose script has been in the works since the 1980s. With a dream first cast, The Hollywood Reporter completes it by revealing that Jon Voight is in talks to join the film. The actor who won an Oscar in 1979 for The return, so was able to read the script. He then describes Megalopolis like “an extraordinary vision. I mean, it’s really bold and brave. (…) The story is very dynamic and surprising. It will be an extraordinary film, with very, very talented actors. It really shoots down all its cards.” The 83-year-old actor has previously teamed up with Coppola on The idealist in 1997.

This opinion is shared by Talia Shire, sister and frequent collaborator of Coppola. She said she had also read it. “He’s doing something big and important.” As for whether she will have a role in the film, she “hope so.”

Megalopolis will be a utopia set in a futuristic New York inspired by ancient Rome. Zendaya, Oscar Isaac, Forest Whitaker, Cate Blanchett, Jon Voight, Michelle Pfeiffer or even Jessica Lange and James Caan could appear in the cast.
