Haneke, Godard… what to see on MUBI France in February 2022

The platform will also give pride of place to female directors.

After Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Pierre Melville and Xavier Dolan in January, MUBI predicts new tantalizing cycles for the month of February. Enough to satiate lovers of the 7th art with more or less recent classics, as well as some exclusives that have not had the chance to be released in French cinemas.

The streaming service will notably offer us a selection of films by Michael Haneke, with the disturbing Ice Age trilogy which launched the career of the Austrian filmmaker: The Seventh Continent, his very first feature film released in 1989, Benny’s Video (1993) and 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance (1994). The no less disturbing The castle (1997), adapted from Franz Kafka, will also be on the programme.

Jean-Luc Godard will be the other attraction of the month on MUBI. Four of the first films of the New Wave icon will be offered by the platform, including three with Ana Karina: The little soldier (1963), A woman is a woman (1961) and Alphaville, a strange adventure of Lemmy Caution (1965), a science fiction film starring Jean-Pierre Léaud. The essential Contempt (1963), with Michel Piccoli and Brigitte Bardot, completes the selection.

Women directors will also be honored with films by Tamar Shavguildze (Comets, 2019), Ana Katz (The Dog Who Wouldn’t Be Quiet, presented last year at Sundance), Agnieska Holland (Europe, Europe, 1990) and Sophie Barthes, the French filmmaker based in the United States, with Souls in stock (2009), a dramatic comedy in which Paul Giamatti plays a disturbed actor who decides to entrust his soul to a specialized company.
