How The Obi-Wan Kenobi Series Will Fit Into The Star Wars Timeline

Obi-Wan Kenobi

A period of 20 years like a small piece to be delicately inserted into Geroge Lucas’ enormous puzzle, without destroying anything in the process.

The life ofObi-Wan Kenobi will reveal a little more in the coming days, on Disney +. The next series Star Wars of the platform will show us new elements around the Jedi master, during the two decades which followed the order 66 of Revenge of the Sithknowing that he will eventually become a wise old philosopher and appeased, in Episode IV: A New Hope.

The director of the series Obi-Wan Kenobi, Deborah Chow, confirms that her drama is an opportunity to fill in some holes in the chronology of the protagonist, even if it was also difficult to include this story in the saga, without modifying the events of the original films. “It was clearly a prerogative that we were very aware of“, explains Chow to Entertainment Weeklywho therefore had to fit, to the millimeter, this new piece in the middle of the big puzzle Star Wars.

A cameo of Qui-Gon Jinn in Kenobi? The director promises “surprises”

“For me, for them, it was necessary to take on the legacy of George Lucas. It’s an honor to take on these characters and to be able to tell a new story with them. So I wanted to be very respectful of what exists and nothing change to what George originally intended…”

Chow goes on to explain that while some connections are already made definitively in Obi-Wan’s timeline, “there is still room for interpretation. We’re telling a story that takes place over a period of about 20 years, and obviously things have happened in those 20 years, and parts of our series will obviously leave room for interpretation…”

Stuck between the dantesque conclusion of Episode III (released in 2005 at the cinema) and the very beginnings of Star Wars (in 1977), the series Obi-Wan Kenobi is therefore preparing to embark on a narrative balancing act, which will have to manage to tell an interesting story, worthy of being mentioned in the enormous mythology of the franchise, without distorting what has already been established. First test on May 27, with episode 1 on Disney Plus.
