In addition to the animated version of Seth Rogen, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will still be rebooted in live action

Two brothers from US TV comedy are writing a new script. Uh … cowabunga?

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise refuses to die. Deadline just learned that a new film would be in preparation, written by brothers Colin and Casey Jost, two actors / screenwriters of US comedy television (including Saturday Night Live). This future project will have a priori nothing to do with the other film Ninja Turtles in preparation for, an animated film written by the damn Seth Rogen (more or less recently: The interview that kills, Sausage Party…). Because the future Ninja Turtles of the Yost brothers will be in live action. Like the last two films, Ninja Turtles and Ninja Turtles 2, released in 2014 and 2016 respectively. But these Michael Bay productions turned turtles into hyper-muscular superheroes with a, ahem, “realistic” look.

Seth Rogen announces the release of his movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for August 2023

The presence of the Yost brothers and Seth Rogen at the helm of the projects suggests that the next films will rather take the route of pure comedy. Or, as we are still in the floating world of postmodern nostalgia, will we see real actors in foam costumes, like in the trilogy? Ninja Turtles (1990-1991-1993) in live action , produced by the HK Golden Harvest studio, where the turtles were designed by the workshop of the great Jim Henson? And with Sam Rockwell in a micro role in the first movie, while we’re at it. In any case, the animated project Rogen will be released at Paramount in 2023, while the details of the Yost project are still under wraps.
