Fans are going to have to hurry: there are only a few days left to attempt to obtain this relic.
If this year came out the adaptation of Frank Herbert’s novel Dune signed Denis Villeneuve, he is not the first to have embarked on the universe of the Spice to make a work of cinema. As we know, David Lynch had already rubbed shoulders with Arrakis in an adaptation of 1985. But even before, in 1975, the filmmaker Alejandro Jodorowsky had already attempted the adventure, alongside the designer Moebius. A well advanced adaptation, the drafts of which have been printed and bound, creating a work almost as colossal as the original novel. And today this relic from the universe of Dune is for sale.
Dune is a “gift for movie fans” according to Christopher Nolan
Listed as part of an auction organized by Christie’s, Jodorowsky’s storyboard signed by Jean Giraud (Moebius), Chris Foss and Hans Ruedi Giger, will have a new owner from November 22. For the moment the work is estimated at a price ranging from 25,000 to 35,000 €.
And for good reason, it really represents the magnitude of this project at the time, in the 1970s. Alejandro Jodorowsky was not only surrounded by great visual artists, he had also approached big stars, like the Pink Floyd or the Magma group for the soundtrack, a cast made up of Salvador Dalí, Mick Jagger, Orson Welles, David Carradine and Alain Delon … A pharaonic project that will unfortunately never see the light of day.
To try to convince producers to finance his film, Jodorowsky goes to meet them with a complete storyboard, printed in ten copies. This is the fifth copy which is now on sale at Christie’s. It measures 210 x 295 mm, and is composed of eleven color plates, after Christopher Foss, Jean Giraud-Moebius and HR Giger, of a title page, of 268 monochrome plates, mainly the storyboard of the film with dialogues, legends and tutorials in French and English and studies of characters, sets and vehicles, and a page with the printer’s address. All plates are photographic reproductions, printed only on the back. The details of this sale can be found here.
