The director of The Event, Golden Lion in Venice, tackles a classic of erotic cinema from the 70s.
The 2022 Cannes Film Festival has not yet started, but we are already starting to announce the film projects that will be sold at the Film Market, where the great films of tomorrow are being prepared. And one of them will be a remake ofEmmanuelleclassic of erotic cinema released in 1974 and which was a real social phenomenon in France (9 million spectators and 553 weeks spent on the bill of a cinema on the Champs-Elysées) by telling the sexual adventures of a young liberated woman traveling to Bangkok to join her husband.
The new Emmanuelleadapted from the novel by Emmanuelle Arsan published in 1959, will be directed by Audrey DiwanGolden Lion at the last Venice Film Festival for his shocking film on abortion, The Event. She will co-write the script with Rebecca Zlotowski (Beautiful thorn, Grand Central, An easy girl), and Léa Seydoux will take the lead role. The actress will also be in Cannes to present The Crimes of the Future of David Cronenberg with Viggo Mortensen.

For the little story, Sylvia Kristel, Dutch actress and model, was on the cover of the very first issue of Premièreappeared on newsstands in November 1976. The actress, who died in 2012, was only 22 whenEmmanuelle, which brought her fame but also totally imprisoned her. A mini-series dedicated to the actress (and the filming ofEmmanuelle) was planned in 2020, produced by Marc Missonnier. Another series is also in preparation.
