Madres paralelas: Pedro Almodovar’s new film will open the Venice Film Festival

With in particular Penélope Cruz, Milena Smit, Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Julieta Serrano and Rossy De Palma.

The organizers of the 78th Venice Film Festival announce that Madres paralelas will open the 2021 festival on September 1 (then it will run until September 11). Filmmaker Pedro Almodovar is delighted: “I was born as a director in Venice, in 1983 (where he presented In the darkness, editor’s note). It was in the Mezzogiorno Mezzanotte section. Thirty-eight years later, I am called to open the festival. I can’t express my joy and honor, or all that it means to me, without getting too laudatory. I am very grateful to the festival for their request and look forward to being there. “

Worn by Penélope Cruz and Milena Smit in the main roles, but also Israel Elejalde, Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, Julieta Serrano and Rossy De Palma, the film will follow, as its title indicates, two mothers who cross paths by chance at the maternity ward, on the point of giving birth, and will retrace their parallel trajectories.
