Netflix is teasing a breathtaking spy film for 2022, adapted from Robert Harris’ best-selling “Munich”.
After 1917 by Sam Mendes, released in 2020, George MacKay returns to the war film in a Netflix production titled Munich – The Edge of War, and signed Christian Schwochow. Next to Jeremy irons and of Jannis Niewöhner, he plays Hugh Legat, a British civil servant on a spy mission as World War II is about to break out.
Adapted from the novel Munich by Robert Harris by Ben power, Munich – The Edge of War propels his characters in the fall of 1938, when Europe is on the verge of war. Adolf Hitler is preparing to invade Czechoslovakia and the British government of Neville Chamberlain (Irons) is desperate to find a peaceful solution to the conflict. Faced with mounting pressure, British civil servant Hugh Legat (MacKay) and German diplomat Paul von Hartmann (Niewöhner) travel to the emergency meeting in Munich. As the talks begin, the two old friends find themselves entangled in a web of deception and political threats. Can war be avoided in front of the eyes of the whole world? And if so, at what cost?
The film, whose cast is completed by August Diehl, Sandra Hüller, Ulrich Matthes, Robert Brathurst, Jessica brown findley, Alex Jennings and Liv Lisa Fries, tells the story of the serious emergency meeting that should have prevented World War II. It portrays the seemingly unstoppable development of the situation in Europe from the point of view of two idealistic young diplomats who are frantically trying to change the course of history.
Munich – The Edge of War will be available on Netflix from January 21, 2022.
