Omicron variant delays Morbius exit by three months

While the new Marvel film was due out in a few days, it will finally wait until spring, until the health crisis subsides.

The whole world is swamped by the Omicron wave. Access to cinemas is increasingly regulated, all over the world, and some have even already closed their doors, as in Belgium or the Netherlands.

In this very uncertain context, Sony Pictures has decided to postpone its next Marvel film, namely Morbius. The vampiric blockbuster worn by Jared Leto will no longer be released in theaters this Wednesday, January 26, 2022 (French date), but in the spring. A date of April 1, 2022 has been set across the Atlantic, pending the French date (certainly Wednesday, March 30).

Jared Leto’s transformation into Morbius revealed

A postponement of three short months, due to the current increase in the number of COVID-19 cases linked to Omicron. Sony seems to hope that the wave will fall quickly and that the health situation will calm down in the coming weeks.

It must be said that after the colossal success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, this new Marvel spin-off suddenly takes on a major stake for the studio, which seems to believe that Morbius will be able to resist Sonic 2 (whose release is scheduled for the same day) and even at the power of Harry potter, because Fantastic Beasts 3 will land the following week at the cinema …

Morbius is directed by Daniel Espinosa, also starring Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris and Tyrese Gibson in the cast.
