Oppenheimer: Casey Affleck joins the cast of new Christopher Nolan

The actor was spotted in military gear on set.

After Dunkirk, Christopher Nolan is once again interested in the Second World War with his new feature film: Oppenheimer, produced by Universal. Oppenheimer is the story of the group of scientists from the Manhattan Project, responsible for the atomic bomb dropped during the attack on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The director based himself on the book of Kai Bird and Martin Sherwin American Prometheus, the biography of Robert Oppenheimer published in 2005.

the DailyMail revealed photos of the shooting, which began at the beginning of February, on which we can see Casey Affleck in military uniform. Which confirms that the Oscar-winning actor for Manchester by the sea of Kenneth Lonergan will star in the Phoney War drama, but it’s not yet clear how big his role will be.

He joins an already impressive cast, with Cillian Murphy in the role of the main character, Emily Blunt in that of his wife, the biologist Katherine Oppenheimer, Matt Damon as General Leslie Groves and Robert Downey Jr. in that of Lewis Strauss, founding commissioner of the American Atomic Energy Commission. We also find Florence Pugh, Benny Safdie, Gary Oldman, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh. The film will be visible in French theaters from July 19, 2023.
