Pokémon in the flesh: a live-action series is brewing for Netflix

Warner Bros. France / Legendary Entertainment / The Pokemon Company / Toho Company

A project which has only just started and which will be overseen by Lucifer’s showrunner!

Pikachu will launch its Lightning Strike for real, in front of Netflix subscribers! While we are still waiting to discover the live action version of Cowboy Bebop, the streaming platform is embarking on a new live action adaptation of a cult animated film. Certainly the most popular of the last decades: Pokemon !

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the executive producer of Lucifer, Joe Henderson, will be the showrunner of a brand new project which is still in the early stages of development and which has been recruiting writers for a few days. A project which would therefore see the famous little creatures imagined by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996 confronting each other in flesh and blood, in real settings.

First designed as Nintendo video games then collectible cards, Pokemon has subsequently been released into multiple television series and animated films over the past 20 years, most of which are currently available on Netflix.

And in 2019, Legendary Picutres tried a first approach in live action, with Detective Pikachu (with Ryan Reynolds doing the voice of Pikachu), an original project, which did not fully convince, gleaning $ 431 million in revenue worldwide, the minimum union given the massive popularity of the franchise internationally. .
