With three trophies each, Jane Campion’s Netflix film and Steven Spielberg’s musical dominate the charts.
There were no fine speeches. Touching moments. Or Ricky Gervais’ valves on the sentimental life of Leonardo DiCaprio. The 79th ceremony of Golden globes was held last night in Los Angeles, without an audience, and without television, because of the controversies that have tarnished the image of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for more than a year.
Nevertheless, this ceremony, which was formerly called the antechamber of the Oscars, makes it possible to trace a real trend, with the Academy’s high mass (end of March) and nominations for statuettes (beginning of February). And what we will remember from 2022 Golden Globes cine awards, is that Netflix has a real chance this year to win the Oscar for Best Picture, for the first time in its history, with The Power of the Dog. Jane Campion’s western has just been crowned Best Dramatic Film by the HFPA voters and will therefore be the favorite at the Academy Awards.
It will still have a strong competitor, already perfectly identified: the musical by Steven Spielberg, West Side Story, will be the other big film expected at the Oscars. He too won last night – like Power of the Dog, – three Golden globes. See the rest of the full list below:
