After Spider-Man and Doctor Strange, the filmmaker would like to tackle another superhero.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is on the cover of the new issue ofEmpire, pending its release on May 4th. At the heart of this anniversary issue, the director of this sequel, Sam Raimi, talks about his love of superheroes and reveals that he would like to tackle the adaptation of the adventures of one of the most famous of them: Batman. Already at the helm of Darkman (1990), of the first three parts of Spiderman (2002-2007) and therefore Doctor Strange 2the director explains enthusiastically: “I’ve always loved Batman. If I saw the Batsignal light up the sky, I’d come running. If I heard The Shadow’s deep laugh from the shadows, I’d take a chance too. Same for Spider-Man , of course, which came before Doctor Strange, and which I don’t want to erase from my list.”

After having shot his super-films at Marvel, could Sam Raimi soon move on to the competition? After all, Warner Bros. is thoroughly developing its DC Comics adaptations, right now, both in movies (The Flash, Aquaman 2, Wonder Woman 3…) than in TV series for HBO Max (a spin-off from The Batman devoted to Colin Farrell’s Penguin is for example being created). Warner Bros. President and Chief Content Officer Toby Emmerich recently announced his intention tohire quality filmmakers for all of his upcoming superhero projects. Could Sam Raimi be part of it? The filmmaker’s call has been sent, it remains to be seen whether the studio will respond to him soon…
