Spy Kids: Robert Rodriguez’s reboot lands on Netflix

The director finally stays with the producers of It’s us the heroes, and no longer with Skydance.

“Carmen and Juni Cortez, welcome to Netflix!” Last year, soon after the success of the family comedy We are the heroeson Netflix, we learned that Skydance Media and Spyglass Media Group wanted reboot Spy Kidsby the same director, Robert Rodriguez. An idea that was not really a surprise since after four opuses released between 2001 and 2011, which grossed more than 500 million dollars at the box office, as well as an animated series and the spin-off The Adventures of Shark Boy and Lava Girl (2005, a film that rightly inspired We are the heroes !), the filmmaker had already let it be known that he did not intend to stop there. The surprise comes rather from the change of producers, since this new project devoted to spying children will finally be designed at Netflix, reveals variety. Spyglass Media is still involved in co-production, since it owns the rights to Spy Kidsbut no longer Skydance, and the press release takes the opportunity to confirm that Rodriguez will take care of writing and directing this sequel himself.

The original film followed Carmen and Juni Cortez (Alexa PenaVega and Daryl Sabara), who discovered that their parents (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino) were part of a super-spy organization. In turn, they launched into this branch when several agents of the group began to disappear. Knowing that Antonio Banderas also appears in We are the heroesit is possible that winks and cameos appear in this new version, whose script details have not yet been given.
