Studio Ghibli theme park to open in November

It will be located in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.

If the films of the Ghibli studio continue to make people dream, some amateurs have an even bigger dream: that of living in a Ghibli film. An experience soon possible, with the forthcoming opening of the amusement park dedicated to films directed (for the most part) by Hayao Miyazaki. It adds to the mythology of films from the Japanese studio, which began with the official museum founded in 2001. The announcement was made on Twitter.

It is now possible to explore the Ghibli Museum virtually and for free

In the kitchen for more than two years, since the Japanese authorities hoped to be able to inaugurate it in 2020, the Ghibli amusement park will finally open its doors only from November 1, 2022. Located in Aichi prefecture, near Nagoya, and divided into five parts, it will take up the universe of some of the studio’s greatest hits: My Neighbor Totoro, Spirited away, Princess Mononoke, The Howl’s Moving Castle, If you listen and others.

Emblematic houses, restaurants, a cinema, walks… Everything that is at the heart of Ghibli productions will be reproduced in detail. The studio has already given an overview of the work still in progress.

Open to the public from next November, part of the park will remain closed until spring 2023. In its entirety, the park will cover 200 hectares and will surround the house of the characters Mei and Satsuki, of My Neighbor Totoroalready existing.

A great tourist asset for Aichi Prefecture but also for the whole country, the studio has partnered with the Aichi Tourist Office to create a commercial highlighting the beauty of the prefecture, and of course the future park to come. This spot is produced by Toshio Suzuki, producer behind many films by Miyazaki.
