Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria) joins Dakota Johnson in the cast of Madame Web, Sony’s Doctor Strange

It will be the first female film in Sony’s Spider-Man universe.

After having rolled his hump well on television with The Handmaid’s Tale, Sharp Objects, The White Lotus and especially Euphoriawhich propelled her to stardom on the small screen, Sydney Sweeney just landed her first major role in a big-budget movie. The actress indeed joins Dakota Johnson in the casting of Madame Web, inform us Deadlinein a role yet to be revealed.

The nature of the movie Madame Web also remains mysterious. In the comics, the character is a paralyzed and blind old lady who suffers from myasthenia gravis, a rare disease. It is kept alive by a system of tubes in the shape of a spider’s web (hence its name) to which it is connected. According to Deadline, it is very likely that the film version will take liberties with the original work. Sony could especially put forward his psychic powers to make him the Doctor Strange of his Spider-Man universe.

After the successes of Venom 2 and Spider-Man: No Way Homeand pending the release of MorbiusSony’s Marvel movies are booming at the box office, and Madame Web will be the first to center on female characters. She is also a director, the British SJ Clarkson (especially known for having directed episodes of dexter, Jessica Jones, Vinyl Where Succession), who is expected to direct the film, whose screenplay is by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Dracula Untold, The Last Witch Hunter, Gods of Egypt).
