Perfect in the Selina Kyle / Catwoman costume, in The Batman, Zoe Kravitz wouldn’t have been there if she had been cast for The Dark Knight Rises, 10 years ago. In a recent interview with The Observerthe actress reflects on the audition she passed for the Christopher Nolan film and reveals that she was rejected after being told that she was too “urban” for the role.

“I don’t know if it’s straight from Chris Nolan… I think it was probably more like some kind of casting director, or an assistant casting director… Being a woman of color, being an actress, and hearing at that moment that I couldn’t even pass the audition because of the color of my skin… This reflection, “too urban”, balanced like that, was really hard to hear that day…

Zoe Kravitz does not say what role she wanted to land (that of Catwoman had ended up in the hands of Anna Hathaway).
