If Peter Jackson isn’t involved, the composer of his two Middle-earth trilogies could come back.
Amazon’s series on The Lord of the Rings seems to move away from the cinematographic saga of Peter Jackson, since neither the scenario writer, nor his key actors (Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen …) take part in its making. In contrast, its first season was filmed in New Zealand (before its sequel to be filmed in the UK), like the films of the initial trilogy, then the Hobbit, and Deadline reveals that the composer of the two sagas, Howard shore, could come back to the soundtrack of the JD Payne and Patrick McKay show. Great news for all those fans who have the tunes of Middle-earth or the Elven Kingdom in mind as soon as they think of the world of JRR Tolkien. Shore’s music has indeed been a huge success, selling millions of copies alongside the release of films since 2001 and offering its creator three Oscars: those for best soundtrack for The Fellowship of the Ring and The king’s return, and that of the best song for “Into the West”, we hear in this third opus released in 2003, interpreted by Annie Lennox.
However, you will have to be patient, because the big budget series will not be released until September 2022 on Amazon. Here is his official synopsis: “For the very first time, the upcoming Amazon Studios series brings to screen the heroic legends of the fabulous Second Age in Middle-earth history. This epic drama takes place thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by JRR Tolkien, and will take viewers to an age where great powers were forged, where kingdoms rose to glory and then ruin, where unexpected heroes were put to the test, where the hope hung by a thread, and where the most powerful adversary to ever spring from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover the world in darkness. The series, which begins in a period of relative peace, follows a A panel of characters both familiar and new, who must face the return of long-feared evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lindon, the incredible island kingdom of Númenor to ex furthest hemispheres on the map … the legacies of these kingdoms and characters will endure long beyond their demise. “
