The Power of the Dog and Jane Campion crowned at the 2022 BAFTAs

The prize list could well be exactly the same at the Oscars, in two weeks!

The British film awards were presented last night in London and these BAFTA 2022 crowned the psychological western of Jane Campion. Already honored at the Golden Globes, Tea Power of the Dog wins the prize for Best Film, and offers Jane Campion, also rewarded at the DGA Awards on Saturday, the trophy for Best Director. She is only the third woman to win this award, after China’s Chloé Zhao (nomadland) last year and the American Kathryn Bigelow (Minesweepersin 2009).

The New Zealand filmmaker will very clearly act as a great favorite at the next Oscars, both this list of BAFTA 2022 looks like a preview of what the Academy Awards ceremony could give in two weeks.

Will Smith won Best Actor for his role in The Williams Method.

Ariana DeBose left with Best Supporting Actress for West Side Story.

Troy Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor for Coda (the remake of The Aries Family) becoming the first deaf actor so honored. Coda also won the award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

Paul Thomas Anderson walks away with the award for best original screenplay for Licorice Pizza.

Drive My Carby Japanese Ryusuke Hamaguchi, won Best Foreign Language Film.

Encanto was crowned Best Animated Feature.

Dunes won most of the technical prizes, including Best Visual Effects.

Finally, only the English Joanna Scanlancrowned Best Actress to everyone’s surprise, for After Love by Aleem Khan, will not be the big favorite in her category at the next Oscars… since she is not nominated.

It will be noted in the list of winners of these 75th BAFTAs that Belfastby Kenneth Branagh, is honored with the specific award for Best British Film.
