This film by Barry Levinson (Good Morning, Vietnam) is carried by Ben Foster (Comancheria) and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread).
The Survivor is adapted from a true story. That of Harry Haft (played Ben Foster, excellent in The Messenger Where Comancheria), an Auschwitz survivor. The HBO, in the production of the film of Barry Levinson (Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man… and more recently dopesick), benefited from the help of the USC Shoah Foundation, which provided access to a testimony of Harry Haft as well as to historical archives to transcribe as closely as possible to the truth his story. Dopesick (on Disney +): a crazy, revolting and moving story (review)
The film will therefore retrace the path of the former prisoner. The horror of the concentration camps, but also the shows he gave to his captors: boxing matches against his fellow prisoners. Motivated by the desire to find the woman he loves (embodied by Kicky Kriepsthe revelation of Phantom Thread), he manages to survive and win against those who try to destroy him. Adapted from Alan Haft’s book: Harry Haft: Auschwitz survivor, challenger to Rocky Marciano, The Survivor tells the story of a man who lived through horror, his journey to freedom, forgiveness and redemption.
The film produced by HBO will be released on April 27 on the platform.
Hold me tight: Vicky Krieps once again exceptional [critique]
