Thor 4: “Christian Bale will be the best villain in the entire MCU”

Director Taika Waititi promises that Gorr, the “Butcher of the Gods”, will tear everything apart.

after playing The Dark Knight, Christian Bale is moving to the Marvel side this year, in Thor: Love and Thunder. Not to play a new superhero, but to embody a supervillain: Gorr the God Butcher. A name that promises, and according to director Taika Waititi (via AP News), he will be downright the best villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe:

“We’re bringing in a great, really fun and weird little band of heroes, a new team around Thor with Korg, Valkyrie and The Mighty Thor. And to face them, we have, in my humble opinion, the best villain that Marvel has ever had, with Christian Bale !”

Natalie Portman challenges Chris Hemsworth with her own Thor: Love & Thunder poster

In the comics, Gorr is an alien from an unknown planet who appeared around 2013 in the comics and who gets his immense power from Knull’s symbiote (yes, a bit like Venom). Nicknamed the Butcher of the Gods, he has this particularity of killing the gods in packs of ten (he reproaches them for not having saved his family). Over 3,000 years old, he is notably endowed with superhuman strength, is able to fly at close to the speed of light and he can also control shadows (to create weapons or minions).

To try to stop it, we will therefore have Natalie Portman with a hammer, and a Chris Hemsworth in the middle of a midlife crisis! As seen in the trailer, Thor will indeed be looking for himself in Love and Thunder : “Thor is just trying to figure out his purpose in life, trying to figure out exactly who he is and why he’s a hero or if he should just be a hero,” Waititi continues. “I guess you could actually call it a midlife crisis!

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in theaters on July 13.
