Today in Cannes: Closing ceremony, Spike Lee, Marco Bellocchio, OSS 117 3 …

The 2021 Cannes Film Festival ends on Saturday July 17.

The highlights of yesterday

The competition of the 74th Cannes Film Festival came to a close with the screening of Uneasy, a drama by Joachim Lafosse (The couple’s economy) carried by two actors in tune: Leïla Bekhti and Damien Bonnard. Among the other films of the day, Vortex, by Gaspar Noé, caused a sensation, in particular thanks to the role of Dario Argento, who plays a filmmaker at the end of his life alongside Françoise Lebrun, the mythical Veronika of The Mom and the Whore. The festival organizers also showed two films by surprise: Edgar Wright’s documentary about the Sparks, who opened this edition with Annette, by Leos Carax, whose music they composed, but it is above all this other document that made a lot of noise: Revolution of our Times, by Kiwi Chow traces the Hong Kong freedom protests and their violent repression. As for Korean Han Jae-Rim, who presented his thriller Emergency Declaration out of competition, he succeeded in stressing the Croisette thanks to this story of a bio-terrorist attack on a plane. If his virus is not strictly speaking the Covid-19, everyone was only talking about it when they left!
