Hanks plays Finch, a robotics engineer and one of the few survivors of a cataclysmic solar event that left the world fallow. But Finch, who has lived in an underground bunker for the past decade, has built a world of his own that he shares with his dog, Goodyear. He creates a robot, played by Jones, to watch over Goodyear when he can’t. As the trio embark on a perilous journey through the desolate American West, Finch strives to show his creation, who is named Jeff, the joy and wonder of being alive. Their journey is one of challenge and humor, as it is as difficult for Finch to get Jeff and Goodyear to come to an agreement as it is for him to deal with the dangers of this new world. “
