The Paramount studio believes that theater attendance is still too impacted by COVID and variants.
The pandemic is not yet behind us. More proof with the announcement of Paramount Pictures, which has decided to postpone its blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick of several months. Filming has been completed since summer 2019, but still no Tom Cruise on our screens. Initially scheduled for release on June 26, 2020, Top Gun 2 was one of the films most impacted by cinema closures. Many times postponed, it was finally due to arrive in theaters on November 9, 2021, but is now set for May 27, 2022 (American date, the French date is not yet known)! That is almost three years after the conclusion of production.
Maverick will therefore face a certain … John wick 4, also expected in theaters for this Memorial Day 2022 holiday weekend.
And that’s not all: Tom Cruise’s other hit, Mission: Impossible 7, suffers indirectly from this postponement. Indeed, the new opus of the adventures of Ethan Hunt was scheduled for May 27, 2022 in the USA. It must therefore leave the place and will not be released until September 30, 2022.
The Paramount studio explains these new shifts by concerns about COVID and the Delta variant which is affecting cinema attendance in the United States and around the world.
