The finding has been the same at the French box office for several weeks: a big American blockbuster is at the top of the rankings, leaving competitors, whether new releases or continuations, crumbs. After the box of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnesswhich remains on the podium thanks to 198,576 admissions recorded in the fifth week, i.e. 2.9 million admissions in all, Top Gun: Maverick is already on the verge of catching up. After offering himself the best start of the year, 1,188,176 additional tickets were sold in 829 theaters in France (only -22% attendance), ie 2.7 million countermarks have already been exchanged in two weeks. A full box for Tom Cruise, who offered himself the biggest success of his career thanks to this Joseph Kosinski film in the world. At the French box office, however, Rain Man and the first Impossible mission did better, collecting respectively 6.4 and 4 million admissions in 1989 and 1996.

Despite Top Gun 2 and Doctor Strange 2, cinema attendance in France is still at half mast

After these two successes, it’s downfall: the rest of the top 10 registers less than 100,000 admissions. Three novelties manage to integrate the ranking in this context: That’s wonderful !by Clovis Cornillac, Firestarter (the new adaptation of charlieby Stephen King) and comedy Official competition, with Penélope Cruz. Among the continuations, Fantastic Beasts 3 and What have we all done to God? hang on in the 8th and 9th week, with 2.7 and 2.3 million tickets sold in total.
