“Val is totally on board with the show.”
This is the great absence of the trailer. In the first trailer of the series Willow from Disney +, we saw the return of Warwick Davis as the title hero, but also Joanne Whalley as Sorsha. On the other hand, no trace of the badass warrior of the 1988 film: Madmartigan. Will he be absent from the sequel?
Willow: The funny video from Disney Plus to present the cast of the series
We know that the actor Val Kilmer has been ill for a few years, but the executive producer Jonathan Kasdan promises to Yahoo Entertainment that the character will indeed be part of the new series, without specifying which place the actor will hold:
“Val is totally part of the show. It was the first conversation I had with Warwick, when we got the green light from the studio: we had to do it with Val! We wanted her character to do part of the story. We wanted him to be on the show.”
It remains to be seen whether we will actually see Madmartigan on the screen. Because in the process, Kasdan specifies that due to COVID-19, Val Kilmer couldn’t film anything :”‘Cause we were touring for [les fermetures liées au COVID-19], he couldn’t come to Wales and tour with us. But he’s a big part of the show and we’re very excited about that.”
So it’s unclear if the character will be dead or appear in some other way in the story written by Jonathan Kasdan and Wendy Mericle. Remember that Ron Howard, the director of Willow original, will produce the series alongside Bob Dolman. Expected release November 30, 2022 on Disney+.
